Adding Images to Articles

Articles in Microsoft Dynamics CRM serve as a knowledge base for users. Articles can be tutorials, testimonials, procedures, case studies, etc. You may find that an Article would do wonders if it had an image. A great example would be a screenshot in a step-by-step tutorial in how to perform a certain task.
At first glance, there would appear to be no way to add an image to an Article, but there is a great trick you can use that is quite simple.
The first thing to do is have your screenshot. For this trick to work, the image must be accessible online. If the image already exists online, you’re good to go. If not, you can upload it to your organization as a Web Resource. For instructions on how to do this, please watch, “Creating a Web Resource”.
In preparation for this, I’ve already created my Web Resource. It is a screenshot of the Qualify button of a Lead record. I want to add the image to an Article that explains how to qualify a Lead.
The first thing I need to do is open the Web Resource. To do this, I navigate to Settings > Customization > Customizations, and then click Customize the System. The Solution window opens with the Default Solution. In the navigation pane, I click Web Resources. Here, I see “Qualify Lead”, the one I created for this lesson, so I open it.
When the record opens, I click Preview in the ribbon. The image opens in a new window. I need to keep this window open, so I minimize it for the time being so I can come back to it momentarily.
Now, I need to open the Article to which I want to add the image. I close the Web Resource and the Solution window, while making sure the image itself is still open, and then navigate to Articles in the Workplace module.
In order to edit the Article it must be unpublished. To unpublish a published Article, simply select it and click Unpublish in the ribbon. My Article is already unpublished, so I open the Unpublished Articles View and open the one titled “How to Qualify a Lead”.
The Article opens. I’ve already written the text; all I have left to do is add the image. This is where I come back to the image I opened from the Web Resource. I’ll place the windows side by side. Now, I can drag the image to where I want it in the Article.
I now have a screenshot in my Article. I can save it, and because I am a System Admin, I can approve it.
The Article is now available for users in my organization.
