In Microsoft Dynamics CRM, the Advanced Find feature is quite a popular and useful tool. Through various filters you can narrow search results to the exact records you need. An easily overlooked feature of Advanced Find is the Details function. It allows you to configure the filters of a saved View so you don’t always have to start from scratch.
When you begin an Advanced Find search from an open View, the filters are auto-applied to the search. By default, Advanced Find is set to “Simple”, meaning that most of the filter criteria is read-only. It would appear that if you want to adjust these filters, you would have to start from scratch. This is simply not true. By clicking “Details” in the ribbon, the filters become configurable so you can tweak and make changes as you see fit.
In this lesson, we demonstrate how to change the default settings of Advanced Find so that the filter criteria is automatically configurable when you begin a search from an open View.
This task requires privileges found in all default Security Roles.
Changing the Advanced Find default mode
- Navigate to File > Options.
- The Set Personal Options window opens. In the Select the default mode in Advanced Find area of the General tab, you can choose between “Simple” and “Detailed”.
- Simple mode will leave most filter criteria in an Advanced Find as read-only.
- Detailed mode will make all filter criteria configurable automatically.
