Creating a Competitor
Hi, and welcome to the Success Portal by xRM.com.
Tracking competitors is a vital to any business. In CRM Online, you can create Competitor records that can be linked to Opportunity, Product, and Sales Literature records, which provides you with important data when competing for sales opportunities.
In this video tutorial, we will create a Competitor record, and then link it to an Opportunity.
This task requires privileges found in all default Security Roles.
We begin by navigating to Sales > Competitors, and then click New in the ribbon.
The Competitor form opens with a temporary name of “New”.
As you can see, Name is the only required field on the form by default. Let’s type “Bob’s Pens (sample)” in the field.
Now, let’s cover a few of the fields in the form.
The Ticker Symbol field allows you to record the identification code used to identify a publically traded corporation on a stock market.
In the Key Product field, we can enter the product that we are most frequently competing with this company for sales opportunities.
As we move down the form, take note of the Analysis section. Here, you can record various data about the Competitor such as an Overview, Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threat.
Now, let’s click Save in the ribbon. The form refreshes.
One thing to point out before we close out of the form; it is possible to add Products to a Competitor. In the left pane, navigate to Common > Products.
We now see the Product Associated View. Here, we can add Products from the Product Catalog.
Now, let’s close out of the Competitor form. We’re going to add “Bob’s Pens (sample)” as a Competitor in an Opportunity record. Navigate to Sales > Opportunities.
Let’s open a sample Opportunity record.
When the Opportunity form opens, in the left pane, navigate to Sales > Competitors.
Now, click Add Existing Competitor in the ribbon.
The Look Up Records dialog opens. Select “Bob’s Pens (sample)”, click the Add button, and then click OK, thus closing the dialog.
We have now created a Competitor and added it to an Opportunity record.
Thanks for watching.
