Goal Roll-Up Frequency and Expiration

In Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Goals help users track progress towards a target, or calculate aggregates. In the Success Portal, there are a number of tutorials about how to compare Goals, manage them, configure them, etc. There is however a useful configuration option that is not found directly in the Goal entity.
By default, the roll-up frequency for Goals is set to 24 hours. This means that Goals are recalculated automatically once every day. For example, say you have a simple Goal that measures revenue generated for Opportunities. If you close a couple of sales and check the progress of this Goal, you may find that it is unchanged. This is because the Goal has not been recalculated.
Goals can be recalculated manually as often as necessary, but they cannot do so automatically in less than the roll-up frequency of 24 hour increments. This frequency can however be decreased. In this lesson, I will demonstrate how to configure this frequency, as well as how to set the roll-up expiration.
I begin by navigating to Settings > System > Administration, and then clicking System Settings. When the System Settings dialog opens, I click the Goals tab where I see the Set the roll-up expiration time and the roll-up frequency section. I have two options.
The first is where I can set the number of days after the Goal end date when the roll-up will stop. This means that even when a Goal has reached its end date, it can still roll-up data. This is useful for any last-minute sales that close after the end date of a Goal, but still should be applied to that Goal’s time period. By default, this set to 30 days, but can be set to any integer of days from 1 to 400.
The second option is the roll-up frequency, which I mentioned earlier. It can be set to any number of hours from 24 to 2.15 billion. To configure this time, set the number, and then click the OK button.
Configuring the Goal roll-up frequency and expiration is that simple. If I wish to see what time a certain Goal is recalculated, I can navigate to Settings > System > System Jobs. When I locate the Goal Roll Up Job in the Recurring System Jobs View, I can check to see when its next instance is scheduled. The listed time is when the Goal will be automatically recalculated. Goal Roll Up Jobs cannot be set to a specific time of day without the use of custom code.
