Outlook Client Installation
In this video, we're going to talk about installing the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Outlook client.
We'll discuss two ways to install the client, both of which are very simple processes. However, there are a couple of important things to know before getting started.
First, be sure that you have administrator rights on your machine (on the computer you use to access Microsoft Office Outlook).
Second, if you already have the CRM 4.0 Outlook client, and have updated to CRM Online 2011, you must uninstall the CRM 4.0 Outlook client.
Thirdly, the Outlook client for CRM Online 2011 is compatible with Outlook 2003 with Service Pack 3, Outlook 2007, and Outlook 2010.
Lastly, if you currently have Outlook 2010, be sure to determine if you have the 32- or 64-bit version.
One way you can install the CRM Online 2011 Outlook Client is through the Get CRM for Outlook button, located below the ribbon. It looks like this. (The video shows the button.) This button appears automatically when you log into CRM Online, if you do not already have the client installed. By clicking the button, an automated installation will begin. However, this button will not appear if you have closed it previously by clicking the "X" (the close icon) on the far right side. It also can be disabled for all users by your system administrator, in which case, it will not automatically appear upon signing in.
You can also install the CRM 2011 Outlook Client from the Microsoft Download Center. (Follow this link http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=10676 to the correct Microsoft Download Center page, or copy and paste the URL into your browser, or search for "Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 for Microsoft Office Outlook".) If you are using Outlook 64 bit, click the Download button on the top. For the 32 bit, click the Download button on the bottom. You will be given the option to save the file locally or to run it. Then you will be led through a simple, step-by-step, installation wizard. (If you save the file locally, you must then run the file manually after saving it to start the wizard.)
Once you complete the wizard, you will be able to access all CRM Online information in a single application (Outlook). Data can be automatically synchronized between Outlook and CRM Online. Any record that is synchronized with Outlook will also be available on any web enabled mobile device, such as Windows Phone, Blackberry, and iPhone.
Note: Installing the Outlook client does not disable your ability to access CRM Online through your browser. After installing the Outlook client, you still have the choice of using either method at any time going forward, as is convenient.
Thanks for watching.
