Product Catalog: Products
Hi, and welcome to the Success Portal by xRM.com.
This is the fifth video in the "Product Catalog" series, following "Product Catalog: Price Lists" and leading to "Product Catalog: Kits".
In CRM Online, a Product is either a physical item or a service that your organization sells or provides. Products in your Product Catalog can be used to build Quotes and Orders, and can be associated with Opportunities.
In this video tutorial, we will create a Product called “Blue Pens”. When we create the Product, we will associate a Unit Group and a Price List with the Product.
These tasks require a Security Role of Manager, Vice President, CEO-Business Manager, System Administrator, or System Customizer, or equivalent privileges.
We begin by navigating to Settings > Business > Product Catalog. Now, click Products.
In the ribbon, click New.
The Product form opens with the temporary name of “New”.
First, let’s name the Product. In the Name field, let’s type, “Blue Pens”.
The required ID field can contain digits, letters, or symbols and must be unique to this Product. Don't worry about trying to remember if it's unique. CRM Online will check for you when you try to save the Product record. We’ll type “BP” in the ID field.
The Product Type field has five options: Sales Inventory, Subscription, Miscellaneous Charges, Services, and Flat Fees. We’ll select “Sales Inventory” since our Product is a physical item that is available in finite quantities.
Let’s move down to the Costs section of the Description area. Notice that the Default Unit field is grayed out. This is because we need to select a Unit Group first. In the Unit Group field, click the lookup icon.
The Look Up Record dialog opens. Select “Pens Unit Group”, which we created in the “Product Catalog: Unit Groups” video. Click OK, thus closing the dialog.
Now, we can identify a Default Unit for this Product. Click the lookup icon in the Default Unit field.
The Look Up Record dialog opens. Select “Pack”, which is the Base Unit and the Primary Unit of the “Pens Unit Group”. Now, click OK, thus closing the dialog.
In the Decimals Supported field, we’ll type “0” since this Product can only be sold in whole quantities.
Before we can add a Default Price List, we must click Save in the ribbon.
Once the Product is saved, we can add a Price List and Price List Items. To learn how to do this, please watch the “Product Catalog: Price Lists” video.
We have now successfully created a new Product. We'll add it to a Kit in the next video, “Product Catalog: Kits”.
Thanks for watching.
