Setting Your Home Page

When you first sign in to Microsoft Dynamics CRM, what’s the first thing you see? There’s a good chance it’s the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Social Overview, an out-of-the-box Dashboard. This is the default home page. If you see a different page, you probably have noticed that you see that same page every time you sign in. Did you know that you can choose what page you want to be your home page?
Your home page could be the place you find yourself navigating to most. It could be the place that tells you what you need to do today. Whatever it is, you can reach it by clicking the home icon in the navigation pane. No matter where you are in Dynamics CRM, this icon will take you back to your home page instantly.
Say I am customer service representative manager, and I find myself using the All Cases View most often. It’s the first place I navigate to each morning. It seems logical to simply make this View my home page. To do that, I simply click File > Options.
When the Set Personal Options dialog opens, I want to select the General tab. The first section is titled “Select your home page and settings for Get Started panes”. There are two dropdown fields in this section: Default Pane and Default Tab. In the Default Pane field, I select the module containing the entity. For Cases, I can choose either Workplace or Service. Workplace is already selected, so I leave it. I then select the entity in the Default Tab field, so I select “Cases”. I’ve now set my home page, so I click the OK button to close the dialog.
When I click the home icon, I am taken to Cases in the Workplace module, just as I specified, but I wanted a different View. I now have to set a default View. I select “Active Cases” in the View selector, click the View tab in the ribbon, and then click Set As Default View.
Now, each time I sign in to Microsoft Dynamics CRM, or click the home icon, I’ll be taken to the Active Cases View in the Workplace module.
