Viewing Campaign Results
A Campaign in Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online 2011 is an effective marketing tool. But what good is the Campaign if you have no insight into its successes and shortcomings? CRM Online allows you to examine with the utmost accuracy the details of your company's campaigns—data such as the speed with which activities have been closed, the activities that are still open, and the number of responses received.
By gathering and analyzing this data, you can decide whether or not to take additional actions in order to refine and enhance the effectiveness of the Campaign.
In this exercise, we will view the overall results of a marketing Campaign by using the default Campaign reports. Then we will run a report in order to examine a specific Campaign Activity.
To begin, we start in the Marketing module, and then click Campaigns.
We'll open the "New Product Advertising" Campaign that we made in the tutorial "Creating a Campaign".
On the ribbon of the Campaign window, in the Data group, click Run Report and select Campaign Performance in the submenu. This is a default report that already exists in our CRM Online system. If we were to create another report that is applicable to Campaigns, we would be able to select that report here in the submenu.
The Campaign Performance Report now appears, showing us properties of the Campaign such as Target Marketing Lists, Sales Literature, Related Campaigns, Planning Tasks, Campaign Activities, Campaign Responses, Campaign finance, etc.
The data from this particular report is fairly shallow since it is displaying data that pertains to a sample Campaign. If this were a real Campaign, with real leads and activities involving multiple users in our system, this report would provide us with great insight into a deeper pool of data.
In addition to viewing the results of the marketing campaign as a whole, we might want to view specific information about the status of Campaign Activities. Let's analyze the status of a Campaign Activity by using the Campaign Activity Status report, another default report in our CRM Online system.
To do this we'll close the report and return to the open campaign "New Product Advertising". In the navigation pane on the left we'll click Campaign Activities.
I'll check the box next to the Campaign activity, "Price Reduction Advertisement". This is a sample Campaign Activity that I created for this walkthrough. It is a phone campaign designed to advertise a price reduction in our product and then gauge customer interest.
Now, let's click Run Report in the ribbon, and then select Campaign Activity Status. Again, this is a default report that is applicable to these records. If the records you select do not have an applicable report, you will not be able to run a report, but can manually create one yourself.
Now on the Select Records window, we'll indicate that we only want to analyze the Campaign activity "Price Reduction Advertisement," by selecting the circle next to The selected records. Now we'll click the Run Report button.
The Campaign Activity Status Report appears. Here we can see information about the Campaign Activity, including the status of the distributed Campaign Activities and assignment by activity owner.
We can even drill down into the data in order to see the status of these phone calls by either clicking Show All, or by selecting the specific section of the chart.
In CRM Online, you can view several reports in order to view the results of marketing campaigns.
Thanks for watching.
